This is not just a Mac/IOS community issue, this is an issue within the entire technology industry. Simply put it is not a boys club anymore, and its time to grow up. The best thing that can happen to industry as a whole is to get a greater representation of women involved. Events like the one mentioned above create a negative stereotype which influences young women to choose alternative careers.

Exclusive: Adobe ceases development on mobile browser Flash, refocuses efforts on HTML5 (UPDATED) | ZDNet:

From the announcement:

Our future work with Flash on mobile devices will be focused on enabling Flash developers to package native apps with Adobe AIR for all the major app stores. We will no longer adapt Flash Player for mobile devices to new browser, OS version or device configurations. Some of our source code licensees may opt to continue working on and releasing their own implementations. We will continue to support the current Android and PlayBook configurations with critical bug fixes and security updates.

In my opinion this is the best thing Adobe could do moving forward. They make very nice developer tools and there is no reason this trend shouldn’t continue while focusing on HTML5.

A Brief Rant on the Future of Interaction Design:

Bret Victor writes about the latest vision of the future videos that were recently released:

As it happens, designing Future Interfaces For The Future used to be my line of work. I had the opportunity to design with real working prototypes, not green screens and After Effects, so there certainly are some interactions in the video which I’m a little skeptical of, given that I’ve actually tried them and the animators presumably haven’t. But that’s not my problem with the video.

My problem is the opposite, really — this vision, from an interaction perspective, is not visionary. It’s a timid increment from the status quo, and the status quo, from an interaction perspective, is actually rather terrible.

This matters, because visions matter. Visions give people a direction and inspire people to act, and a group of inspired people is the most powerful force in the world. If you’re a young person setting off to realize a vision, or an old person setting off to fund one, I really want it to be something worthwhile. Something that genuinely improves how we interact.

I completely agree with that sentiment. That said, I do not think that everything must provide tactile feedback to be visionary.
